Watching ‘Haibane Renmei’ - interesting so far. Great character design by Yoshitoshi Abe (Serial Experiments Lain, NieA under 7) and reminds me of Kino’s Journey, one of my all time favourites.
My phone just died on me (not cool) so I’m gonna be moving to a dumbphone for a while. A small ereader would compliment it nicely, I’ll probably grab the xteink x4 that just released, it’s a good deal for how portable the device is. Apparently small ereaders have become a lot more popular in China so we might see a hisense touch competitor soon.
Now I have two copies of Leonard Cohen: Greatest Hits.
Going to be uploading more recipes in the future, it’s convenient to have them all in one place - plus I can check them from my phone.
Completed The Difference Engine. Very complex book, it holds a lot back. I can see people walking away disappointed with how it ended. You get the sense of a vast, rich world but you only ever see a fraction of its surface at a given time - which can be frustrating but it’s impressive for just ink on paper. Highly recommend if you like computers and conspiracy.
The Difference Engine is a great book so far, all the better for reading it off the back of Hodges’ Alan Turing biography. It takes place in a 19th century future-past where Babbage and Ada broke us into the information age. Huge recommend for both books.
Back in my groove with reading now, I’m hoping to finish uo this Alan Turing biography by the end of the month since I’ve got a backlog of cold-war era history I want to read before the bug wears off.
I’m really enjoying Charles Stross’ writing at the moment - I’ve blasted through the first few books in the Laundry Files series - but a copy of The Hero of Ages finally came through the library after I’ve had it on reserve for months so I better finish up the trilogy before I read any more. I’ve still got a few biographies I need to wrestle with too so that I can convince myself that I’m not wasting money, just converting it into valueless, invisible intellectual assets.
I need to have a period of intense creative focus soon
Another great find, onionbaby’s barnyard fever.
