‘Speed Trials’ was an LP released in 1985 that featured the likes of pre-rap Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Lydia Lunch, and the Swans amongst others.
Originally recorded in 1983 at the festival of the same name at White Columns, NY, over a hundred musicians, dancers and artists performed - this LP only featured a handful of the bands that played.
This is the first in a set of image posts that I’ll upload to both my blog and to my instagram page.
All of Amy Jeffs’ books feel important in a very intimate way - a look into a lost collective history in a way that emphasizes how removed Britain is from its past, a nation forever looking outwards. This isn’t to say that these traditions should be revived (in a synthesized neo-paganist way that would remove us further from their lived history) but that they should be remembered because they ‘[bring the marvelous closer’ and remind us that the past belongs to everyone.
I made an Instagram account for this blog: check it out!
This is a style of post that might turn into a series, but with my record don’t expect much.
I’ve been watching, reading, and listening to a lot of stuff recently so I thought this as good a place as any to jot down some quick thoughts.
Things I’ve seen
The Ninth Gate - A movie about booksellers and sex cults, staring Johnny Depp and directed by Roman Polanski.
My life is suddenly getting busy again. I have some ideas noted down for more blog posts but I’ll have to get to those when I get to them. For now, I’ll keep on updating my book list.
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is an Inscription must watch.
Made a slight fix to my blog scripts so that they show up in date order in my directories instead of a jumbled mess. Definitely should’ve thought of that from the start.
Check out this great 1972 prog rock album from a relatively unknown British band. Standout tracks for me include Life And Times, Summerdays, and Time Of War. I might start doing more media reviews/ recommendations.
