Simple Flatbread Recipe

Here’s a short recipe for a simple flatbread.

Ingredients

Bread can really be made with much less than this (just flour, yeast, and water) but these have brought me the best results. They’re not only great for the flatbread I describe below, it can be made into loaves or rolls by removing the baking powder and adjusting the amount of time allowed for the dough to rise and bake.

When making bread pay attention when the dough is rising - once it’s doubled in size it’s ready to be folded or baked. When loaves or rolls are prepared from this recipe tapping the bottom will give a good indication of if it’s ready; it’ll sound hollow.

Method

  1. Mix together ingredients and add water until dough is soft but not sticky
  2. Leave to rest for 20-30 mins
  3. Separate dough into two halves and stretch and fold them and leave for another 10 mins
  4. Preheat oven to 200c with fan
  5. Roll out the dough until its about 1cm thick then cover in olive oil, salt and pepper
  6. Remove from oven when the top is golden brown and leave to cool before eating - this will let the bread continue to cook on the inside.
